Glassblowing 101

Students will learn how to blow glass and work with their partners/assistants as a team on the glassblowing "bench" in a hot shop in Seattle. We will visit galleries and museums in Seattle and Tacoma to learn about contemporary art. In addition we will observe glass artists in action to better understand and appreciate the process of forming shapes with glass.

Educational Objectives:

  • Learn how to blow glass in theory and try it out in the glassblowing studio
  • Learn the tools that are used for glassblowing and safety in the studio
  • Lean the importance of communication and teamwork
  • Learn about glass itself, the history of glass, some local glass artists and their artwork
