Learning all about Diwali
This week, the South Asian Affinity Group hosted this year’s Diwali celebration. The whole community got to be involved during flex time as the affinity group put together an educational and entertaining presentation for the student body.
The goal of the time was for students to share their culture and a little bit more about the holiday of Diwali. The time included a special dance presented by seventh graders Laya P. and Saanvi M., and a narration of the story of Diwali by Junior Aditya S. Students even helped moderate a panel of staff members made up of Front Office Manager, Madhu Alapaty and School Coordinator, Priya Santhana Vannan who shared their experiences and thoughts on Diwali and how they celebrate with their families.
The event culminated with a lively round of Diwali-themed trivia for everyone to recall what they had learned throughout the event. The event paired well with the themed food in the campus center prepared by Travis Boyce, Director of Food Services, and his crew. While they ate, students enjoyed Diwali music and could even get henna art if they wanted.
Affinity groups are a great way for students to connect over shared experiences and share more about their cultures, religions, and identities with the broader community. Thank you to the South Asian Affinity Group for putting on such a fun event. Happy Diwali!
