Description

The magnificence of Machu Picchu cannot be explained – it must be experienced. This 8-day journey starts in the European-influenced Peruvian capital of Lima and continues into Cuzco and the Sacred Valley, exploring how the ancient Incas harnessed the land and design an empire. The journey then becomes challenging, as we spend 4 days backpacking the 26-mile Inca Trail, which will take us over mountains, through cloud-forests, and into subtropical jungles, all while navigating Incan-designed roads and tunnels. The Trail ends at Machu Picchu just in time for the sunrise. Experience Machu Picchu for a full day before we take the train back to Cuzco and return back home. The hiking-intensive trek is ranked in the top 5 in the world, and it will prove to be an unforgettable journey for all of us.

Special Considerations

Participants must attend H-Day Club meetings

Dates and Times of this project may change due to flight availability.

This is a trip that requires a positive attitude and open-mindedness, as it will be challenging for everyone. It is hiking intensive, and those who are attending must be willing and able to hike mountainous terrain for approximately 8 miles per day. It is absolutely doable, but enthusiasm for the journey itself is a must.

The School’s goal is to ensure that students have greater access to the full array of co-curricular opportunities available. Financial aid is available for Project Week trips costing more than $900.
