We are excited to present this incredible project week opportunity that will give you a chance to walk in the shoes of immigrant farmworkers, touch on multiple perspectives of the immigration debate, delve into the complexity of labor, and explore socioeconomic factors at play.

On this journey, we will work side by side with farmworkers at Broetje Orchards (Prescott, WA), spend time supporting English language learners, and explore a variety of non-profit organizations.  We will then travel to Wapato to meet with City Council members, Business Chamber representatives, community activists, leaders, and law enforcement to get a better picture of the diverse opinions about living in a rural agricultural immigrant community.  This is an action-packed project week full of physical activity, cultural exploration, Spanish language, and friendship.  Spanish language skills are not a requirement but those who study Spanish will have extensive opportunities use their skills throughout the week.

  • Explore the fundamental question of economic gaps in a community
  • Push the physical limits and mental limits of our students
  • Create on on-going partnership with communities east of the mountains
  • Document the experience to share with the greater Overlake community
  • Spanish language and cultural immersion
Special Considerations
  • Meet for pre-trip group work (possible lunch and after school meetings)
  • Complete difficult manual labor throughout the week with a positive attitude
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and be open to new concepts and ideas
  • Challenge themselves to be in situations that may be difficult and thought-provoking

Participants will receive credit for 15 service hours
