Description

Before the adventure begins, seventh and eighth graders will learn the basics of bicycle mechanics and maintenance, including road safety, fixing flats, gear chains/cogs, cables, brakes, derailleurs, and more. In addition, they will go for a pre-trip ride along a local trail.

In March, students will be prepared to explore Arizona's Sonora Desert on wheels! This is the land of Geronimo, Cochise and 250-year-old saguaro cactus: azure skies, endless vistas hemmed with 10,000-foot peaks. Wildlife is prolific, from coyote to javelina, desert tortoise and rare birds. Tucson will serve as a base as we explore the environs on The Loop, a 100-mile dedicated bicycle trail that circumnavigates Tucson. Each day’s journey includes a 10-15 mile ride, with stops including the Desert Museum, Flandrau Science Center, a hike through Sabino Canyon (including several natural pools on the way down), rolling hills of Saguaro National Park East, and the Pima Air & Space Museum.
