(Almost) Alone: Outdoor Skills and Adventure
This course will introduce students to basic bushcraft, outdoor leadership, survival principles, and backpacking. Please review Special Considerations before selecting!
This course is open to girls in grades 6-8. Backpacking, camping, and outdoor education are all spaces where trust and community matter. By establishing this trip as girls-only, it is our intention to create a safe and inclusive space where girls can push their limits, learn without fear of judgement, and foster a community of empowerment.
No prior outdoor experience required but participants should be ready to hike, carry gear, problem-solve in real world situations, and be (almost) alone in nature.
Students will be expected to bring lunch from home each day, including the day we depart for camping. Dinner, breakfast, and the second day of lunch will be provided on the overnight trip in accordance with students’ dietary needs.
Participants must be willing to follow King County and destination travel COVID guidelines. If a participant should become COVID positive during the trip, the student will be isolated, and the student’s family will be required to pick up the student within 36 hours at their current location. The family will bear all the costs associated with any travel to pick up their student and any costs for isolation or return travel.
By selecting the above project, you and your family are accepting the financial responsibility for the cost of the projects. This includes any unrecoverable expenses incurred if Overlake, or any federal, state or local government forces cancelation of the project, or if you or your family decide not to attend, or your student becomes COVID positive and needs to be isolated.
