Our stories define us. They help us understand who we are by showing us where we came from, who we came from, what our relatives experienced, and what family means. The Overlake Story Project is an oral history collection project. Each participant will collect a meaningful story from a family elder. The topic of the story can be about any significant event the subject’s life—emigration, immigration or migration, education, marriage, parenthood, political activism, travel, or more. It can be about the subject’s experience at the time of a significant historical event, such as the Holocaust, the partition of India or Palestine, the Cultural Revolution in China, the Vietnam War, 9/11, or others. Subjects of the interview must be of a certain age—born before 1960—and must be either a relative or close family friend. Students will work to create a clear oral history collection plan, do research on topics to be discussed, create an outline of important questions, and then interview the subject either in person or online. This project will take place online. Participants will share highlights of their collected stories on the last day of Project Week. Discover your own story. Join us.
