Are you interested in climate justice, sustainability, environmental activism and strategies to decrease environmental impact and mitigate and reverse climate change? Join our student-led project week to explore strategies for sustainability activism and put those strategies to work right here at Overlake. In the first half of the week we’ll learn from activists, corporations, urban farmers, Native Americans, governments, and organizations about what works and what doesn’t. For the second half of the week we’ll put our learning to work on Overlake's campus to work in teams to make recommendations of actionable steps to Overlake’s Administration and Board of Trustees to make the school a greener place. We will work closely with Overlake's newly formed Sustainability Committee of the Board to enact change and help accomplish their goals and further their work. Whether you’re interested in energy, waste, water, technology, or another area of environmental activism, come and join Overlake’s Green Team and help make the world (and Overlake) a better place!

Special Considerations

Students will receive some service hours as decided by the leader (not to exceed 15 hours).

Students should be willing to walk and explore both urban areas and get their hands dirty with service projects. Students should have open and inquiring minds to meet with people from a variety of viewpoints that may differ from their own.

Participants must be willing to follow COVID guidelines.  Participants should only attend illness free. If a participant should test positive for COVID during the project, the student will be isolated, and the student’s family will be required to pick them up at their current location.  The family will bear all the costs associated with the student pick up.

By selecting the above project, you and your family are accepting the financial responsibility for the cost of the projects.  This includes any unrecoverable expenses incurred if Overlake, or any federal, state or local government forces cancelation of the project, or if you or your family decide not to attend, or if your student becomes symptomatic and has to be isolated.
