Owls Compete in State Tournaments This Week

It’s a busy week for many of our student athletes as they compete at state championships.

While our golfers just wrapped up their season with huge success in Spokane, Owls Girls' Tennis plays in Yakima, and Boys' Soccer goes to Sumner as one of the final four teams.

Both are defending last year's State Championship wins.

If you can’t make it to the action in Yakima or Sumner, you can always get the latest sports news through our athletics twitter account.

Go Owls!

Owl golfers were the first to play in WIAA action. Four golfers; three boys and one girl, competed in Spokane on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On the boys’ side, Trent G. (’18), Justin P. (’18), and Conrad I. (’21) were among the field of 76-golfers hoping to bring home some hardware. All three made the cut to advance to the second day of competition. The Owls didn't disappoint on the leaderboard as Trent finished in 17th place, Conrad placed 30th, and Justin was in 42nd. Even more impressive is that the Owls placed 8th in team scoring.

Freshman Ivy H. (’21) was Overlake’s lone girls’ golfer at state, and she didn’t disappoint in her first appearance. She too made the cut on her first day shooting an 83. On her second day, she stayed in the hunt for a top ten finish, but ended up in 13th just a couple strokes off the top.

Congratulations to our Owl golfers! Image-1.jpg

On Friday, the Girls’ Tennis doubles team of Maria R. (’18) and Amanda L. (’18) begins their defense of last year’s state championship victory. They travel to Yakima Tennis Club along with fifteen other schools in the WIAA 1A doubles championship. We caught up with the seniors and their Coach Nate Edmunds at an afternoon practice.

While the team looks for a repeat, the team is quite different from last year. New Head Coach Scott Lane brought a new system for his Owls team that posted at 14-2-2 record. Here's a link to an article in this week's Redmond Reporter on the team's trip to the Semi-finals. Friday’s action begins at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Chevrolet Stadium. The field of four teams continues play on Saturday with the Third Place game at 10:00 a.m. and the Championship Game at 3:00 p.m.
