Three-School Battle of the Books!

Winning students, school logos, schedule board, jeopardy board, Kahoot board

Each year, Overlake runs a Battle of the Books for interested 6th-8th graders, in which we compete virtually against teams from Open Window and St. Thomas schools. Students have a few months to read books from the list they helped choose, and the librarians from the three schools, plus any faculty we can recruit, read the books and write up questions.

We first run a preliminary Battle to determine which two Overlake teams will compete. This year, we changed up the format so that in addition to traditional-style rounds, we had Jeopardy and Kahoot rounds as well. Despite some technical glitches, not unexpected for our first time trying the new formats, the final Battle went well and Overlake's Team One emerged victorious! Congratulations to Diya M., 8th, Laasya, 8th, Karys, 7th, Laya, 7th, and Jayani, 6th--well played!

Many thanks to Lauren Richey from Open Window and Erin Quarterman from St. Thomas, as well as to their dedicated readers. Thank also to all the faculty who helped read books and write up questions, and to Amman Berhe for being such a help with the technology.
