Cement Trucks Arrive on Campus
A parade of cement trucks made their way onto campus Friday while students and faculty were away on retreats. The cement is being used to make the support walls for the underground vault that will house stormwater runoff on our campus.
Known as stormwater management, which is mandated by the federal Clean Water Act as well as state and local ordinances, how stormwater is caught, stored and eventually released matters to the overall health of the environment.
Once captured in the vault, the runoff water is released through an outlet pipe that is specifically designed to let the water out at a controlled rate, so it can be released into nearby surface water, such as streams and rivers, at the same frequency and volume as it had before construction of the new Math & Sciences Center.
The underground detention vault is one piece to the overall stormwater management work. Once construction is complete on the vault, crews will begin to trench various areas leading into the vault, to lay pipe that will direct the stormwater into the holding vault.
This work will entail the partial closing on the roadway leading into the campus and is expected to take several weeks. We will continue to update you on the latest construction news as we learn it.
