An Overlake Summer is a Great Time to Learn the Campus

It’s like getting a sneak peek at your new school. That’s what some newly enrolled families have learned by registering for summer camps at Overlake before the start of the new school year. For the Hutton family, having Maddie become familiar with the campus during the quiet summer time was an opportunity not to miss. “I participated in Mission In the Kitchen, Outdoor Sculpture, and Perspective Drawing,” explains Maddie. “Summer camp was the first real amount of time I spent on campus.”

“Having newly enrolled families get to know our campus in a more intimate setting is a great first welcome to the community,” says Nate Edmunds, Summer Program Director. “I find that students who will be starting at Overlake in the fall get a jump start on knowing their surroundings, their teachers, and even fellow students by engaging during the summer months.”

That was definitely true for Maddie, who says her first impression of Overlake came through her time spent in summer camps. “Participating in the summer program really helped me to learn how the campus operated. By the time school started I knew how to get around campus in the most effective way possible. Some of the teachers at camp would tell us about their favorite teachers, and their favorite part of the school experience, so I felt like I already knew everyone.”

Summer camps at Overlake vary in both the grades they serve, from third through eighth, but also in the subjects they cover. “We offer camps that feature our great outdoor campus, camps that showcase our sports fields, and indoor camps that highlight our great facilities, like our Fulton Performing Arts Center,” explains Edmunds. “Students really get a chance to explore every corner of our 73-acre campus and experience the wide range of opportunities that we provide at the school.”
