Farm to Overlake US Dance Information
ASB Social Coordinator, Kamila M. and ASB Supervisor, Jenni Baldwin are excited to announce that the Upper School first dance of the school year will take place next Friday, October 5th from 8:00-10:00pm in the Overlake Campus Center. The theme for this first dance is Farm to Overlake inspired by the fall harvest season and a fun excuse to break out the plaid, overalls, and cowboy boots.
Below are some helpful reminders for students and families to gear up for this casual affair.
Description: In going with tradition, the first dance of the year is casual. Students should dress with theme, such as flannel shirts, cowboy boots, country western wear, or students could even come dressed as farm animals. Some students will come in big groups, some with their sport teams, some with their best friend, and some might even arrive with a date. It’s up to each individual to decide what makes the most sense to ensure that they will have fun.
Before the Dance: Some students decide to go to group dinners prior to the dance. There will be chaperones in the Upper Parking Lot to supervise students as they come into the dance to reduce speeding, loitering, or any other mischief.
Tickets: Admission to the dance is $7.00, which will be charged to student accounts at the door.

Time: The dance starts at 8:00 pm. Students may not arrive after 8:30 pm. Students who arrive after 8:30 pm will not be allowed to enter. The dance ends sharply at 10:00 pm, and all students should have advance plans for transportation home after the dance.
Guests: Each Overlake student is allowed to bring one guest from other area schools. These guests must fill out a dance guest form with parent and administrator signatures. The form can be found here or outside the Assistant Upper School Head’s office. Guest forms need to be returned to Meghan Waddle by 3:10pm on Friday, October, 6th. Guests who do not have a form returned prior to the end of the school day on the day of the dance may not enter. All guests must be accompanied by their Overlake School hosts, who are responsible for their guests during the entirety of the evening event.
Dance Rules & Etiquette: Students are expected to behave in ways consistent with all Upper School Student Policies. Before entering the dance, all students must sign a form indicating they understand the school rules prohibiting the use of drugs or alcohol at or before the dance. Students who leave before the end of the dance will be checked out on the attendance sheet. Once students leave the dance, they may not re-enter (exception: Students may step outside the front doors for fresh air, but not leave the immediate vicinity of the front doors). Students may not arrive under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If a student is suspected to be in violation of these rules the Assistant Upper School Head reserves the right to breathalyze the student and/or call for parent pickup immediately. Overlake does not permit dancing that is explicitly sexual or judged inappropriate by members of the faculty and administrative chaperones. Though we do not prohibit back to front dancing between dance partners, we do require distance between dance partners. The practice of “grinding” as students dance is not allowed. If this style of dancing occurs, the music will be stopped and the lights turned on. The dance will resume after a short break. If the behavior continues, the Assistant Upper School Head reserves the right to stop the dance for the evening.
After the Dance: There will be chaperones in the Upper Parking Lot to supervise students as they leave the dance to reduce speeding, loitering, or any other mischief. Students are expected to leave Overlake immediately after the end of the dance. Parents picking up their child should be there no later than 10 pm. Students that are on ASB are expected to help clean up after the dance from 10-10:30 pm. The cleanup crew (comprised of ASB members and SOCO club members, and anyone else who wants to lend a hand) should be finished cleaning up by 10:30 pm at the latest. Thank you for planning prompt rides home so that chaperones do not have to stay beyond the end of the dance and clean up.
Chaperones: The dance will be chaperoned by a team of faculty members led by Assistant Upper School Head, Meghan Waddle and US Head, Gerald Buhaly.
