Fall Battle of the Books!

Winning Battle of the Books Team Fall 2017

The Battle of the Books is a combination of reading contest and game show in which teams compete to answer questions from a set list of books, some of which were chosen by the students. Questions always ask for the author and title of the book, as in: "In which book is the main characters’ ship attacked by Shrimpzilla and his deadly nose hair?" (Answer at the end of the post.)

Every year, the Library runs three Battle of the Books sessions. 5th graders have their own Battle in February (book list here), and all 5th graders participate. The Fall Battle is a preliminary competition for 6th-8th graders interested in being in the spring multi-school Battle with teams from Open Window and St. Thomas; this year's multi-school Battle will be at St. Thomas on March 19. Congratulations to the two winning teams from the Fall Battle who will go to the March Battle!

Winning Team: Team Two: Aaditya, 6th, Cat, 7th, Sophie, 8th, Anika, 6th.

Runner up Team: Team One: Lilou, 6th, Gavin, 7th, Zubin, 7th, Kamya, 7th, Venkat, 7th, and Sameeksha, 7th.

Many thanks to the volunteers who helped with the Battle, either by bringing snacks (Anusha Rao, Kundana Palagiri), or helping with timekeeping/scorekeeping/crowd control at the Battle (Dave Bennett, Rachael Lydyeard, Christian Fulghum, Heather Jasper, Greg Kakas, Leija Davis). I couldn't do it without you!
