Backpackers take to the Cascades

outdoor education

Overlake's Outdoor Education class spent the last four days backpacking in the North Cascades.

Outdoor Education Teacher Kent Renno says they had perfect conditions for learning: rain, more rain, cold, mice, blue skies, starry skies, and sunshine. The students all handed the conditions with ease.

They learned and practiced backpacking and camping skills, self-care, water treatment, cooking and food management (bear hangs), map and compasses, group process, leadership and risk management.

It's another example of our awesome experiential education trips. "My hope and goal is that the group process, leadership, and risk managements skills will spill into their everyday life and that you all will see that in their life at Overlake,"says Renno. "I also hope that their love of the outdoors will continue for a lifetime."
