Math Club Grows and Looks for New Members
Does your middle school student enjoy problem solving, being part of a team, and having lots of fun?
The MS Math Club had their first meeting Wednesday, and 17 sixth through eighth grade students used zero period to work on a math problem while enjoying a morning snack.
Middle School teacher Becca Flora leads the group and says they’re always looking for more students to join the activity. “We want anyone who loves math to join us,” says Flora. “Everybody will have the opportunity to show a strength, and that strength could be speed of calculation, looking at problems from different angles, or helping a team work together.”
She stresses that the club is not a competitive environment or an accelerated math class.
MS Math Club also prepares members for spring's WSMC Math Olympiad.
Flora says that will include monthly Math Olympiad contests within the club. “It’s not a competition, and it’s not the team that finishes first,” says Flora. “There’s really no pressure except to have fun and enjoy some food!”
The next meeting is next Wednesday morning at 7:20. For more information, contact Becca Flora.
