November construction update
As our new Student & Community Center rises from the ground before our eyes, we are thrilled to share that we are closing in on our goal to have it fully funded by the time the building is completed in Summer 2025. Nearly 130 parents, alumni, and friends of Overlake have contributed nearly $5.5 million. Our goal is to raise a minimum of another $1.2 million by the end of the school year, closing out both this project and our historic Doors to Discovery capital campaign.
The Student & Community Center is the third and final project of the Doors to Discovery capital campaign, which built the Whitten Math & Sciences Center (opened 2021) and increased financial aid endowment to ensure that all families who qualify for financial aid receive 100% of their demonstrated need.
The new 8,000 square-foot Student & Community Center is specially designed to extend learning beyond the classroom and further students’ skills in collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity, ensuring they are equipped to thrive in the team-based environments they will encounter in college and throughout their careers.
As donors, Xiaohua Ma & Liangxiao Zhu (Kevin M ’32 & Justin M ’26) shared, “We feel that supporting the Student & Community Center gives us an opportunity to support Overlake students to learn, grow, and achieve their full potential. They will be the next generation of thinkers, leaders, and entrepreneurs to shape tomorrow’s world.”
This is our final year of fundraising for Doors to Discovery and the Student & Community Center. We hope our entire community will support this transformational endeavor as the school year progresses. And stay tuned for hard hat tours and celebrating milestones along the way!
