Katie Hill - Class of 2014
Katie Hill found her way back to the Owl’s Nest, returning to Overlake to join the ranks of alumni faculty following in the footsteps of Bill “Army” Armstrong and John Wiley to name a few. “I was fortunate to have incredible teachers who cared about my development as a person as much as my academic progress,” shares Katie who now “models some of my teaching practices after these excellent educators.”
Katie is now one of Overlake’s math faculty members (one of many hats she wears on campus). But she’s always loved having a hand in many things including singing in Erin Gabriel’s choir, playing on the same sports teams as her sister for two years, taking outdoor education trips, and partaking in Overlake’s vast array of clubs. A favorite memory came from Japanese class where Katie learned to cook okonomikyaki. One of the reasons Katie returned to teach at Overlake is because of the many opportunities available to students here.
When she’s not grading math tests, preparing lesson plans, or coaching cross-country, Katie loves to recharge in nature through hiking, skiing, and running. She also plays on a co-ed soccer team and spends her summers volunteering for Cancer Pathways as a camp counselor for children who are undergoing cancer treatment or whose parents are going through treatment.
Katie keeps up with many of her Class of 2014 classmates including fellow colleague Colton Umberger and is an avid participant in alumni events and programming, always fully embracing her connection to the school through the many chapters in her journey from student to alumni to faculty member.
