Three-School Battle of the Books!

Pictures of student compeition winners

Congratulations to St. Thomas Team Two and Overlake Team Two, winners of the 2021 3-school Battle of the Books! On the Overlake team, Richard, 6th, Derek, 6th, Shaina, 7th, Cali, 6th, Elliott, 6th, and Grace, 6th came from behind in the finals to emerge victorious. The two teams from Open Window also did a fantastic job, sweeping the preliminary rounds, and were strong and knowledgeable competitors.

The Battle of the Books is a combination reading contest and game show, in which teams of students compete to answer questions from a set list of books. Questions always start with "In which book" or "Which book," and the answer is always the title and author. For instance: "In which book does the main character get a pink Barbie shoe stuck up his nose?" The answer is: Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney.

This was our first year doing the Battle of the Books online, and many kudos to all the participants for showing up and giving it their all. Many thanks to my colleagues at Open Window and St. Thomas--Lauren Richey and Alpha DeLap--for getting their teams prepped and ready to go, and helping with time keeping and score keeping. Thanks also to Kelly Vikstrom-Hoyt for her support on campus, and Karen Zaidberg for sharing her Zoom and getting us going.
