How Lucky You Are
It was just two weeks ago that Seussical the Musical wrapped up with its final performance. Students had been rehearsing since January in preparation for the all-school musical. The all-school musical brings together students from all grades to perform together. Although it risked cancellation, the musical was one of the last on campus events before the campus closed due to COVID-19.
“We were so, so lucky that we were able to finish the run of our show," shares Erin Gabriel, Arts Department Chair. "Personally, I am really grateful that the last ‘official’ event on our campus was one full of so much joy, and growth, and positive energy. Those kids gave everything to those weekend performances, and the audiences were delighted.”
The audience numbers may have been fewer due to the threat of the virus, but those who were able to attend were excited and happy to get to witness such a positive expression of joy and see the hard work the students put into the productions.
The weekend rounded out with an understudy performance showcasing the hard work those students put in learning multiple roles.
“The kids were really aware of how lucky we were – and that’s the name of one of our songs, too! ‘How Lucky You Are’. It had a whole new meaning to them, and to us, too – all the adults in the band, and all adults of the production staff – to know that this would be it for Overlake for the foreseeable future. It was really special,” said Gabriel.
For those unable to attend the show, you now have the opportunity to view the performance here.
