Students Clean Slough
Last Sunday was our annual urban outdoor adventure on the Sammamish Slough which includes a river clean-up.
The group paddled from downtown Redmond to Woodinville picking up trash along the way. They collected multiple bags of trash, part of a bench, and around 150 tennis balls. "I’ve been doing this trip for the last 9 years and we have picked up around 2200 tennis balls, all from the dog park in Marymoor park," says Director of Experiential Education Kent Renno. "We definitely left the Slough better than we found it."
The Overlake School is in the Sammamish Slough watershed. Water coming from our campus flows past the lower field, and into Mackey Creek in Farrel-McWhirter park, then into Bear Creek, which then flows into the Sammamish Slough just south and west of the Redmond Town Center near 520.
