5th Grade Battle of the Books!
The 5th graders fought a pitched Battle of the Books this morning in the TLC Student Center! The Battle of the Books is a reading contest/game show that challenges teams of students to read a list of ten books, half chosen by students, half by the librarian, then answer questions about those books in several rounds of competition against other teams. The entire fifth grade competes. Thanks to snow, they had an extra three weeks (on top of the original three months) to read. Questions always start with "In which book" and the answer is always the author and title. Sample question: "In which book does a dragon crash land on a row of porta-potties?" Answer: The Lost Hero, by Rick Riordan.
Congratulations to Gold Team Three for blowing by the competition and taking the win: Jadyn, Diana, Zach, Cade, and Amir.
Thanks to Jill Bowles for keeping the score, and Limei Xu and Kerri Hunt for tag-teaming as timekeepers. Thanks also to Jacqui Jackson's and Micah Orr's advisees for letting us use their usual homeroom space! Most especial thanks to all the 5th grade teachers who give up class time to let their kids participate in this exciting reading competition.
