Ski Bus Guidelines
- Students should pack all their gear. The student’s name should be on each piece of gear and clothing.
- Students can bring snacks for the bus. If students would like to purchase food at the lodge they need to bring additional cash. Chaperones are not expected to loan money to students who did not bring cash.
- Rental equipment and lessons are available at the different resorts that Ski Bus visits. This is an added expense and requires the signature of an adult - please let the Ski Bus Trip Manager know if your child will be renting equipment so they can sign for the rentals.
- Boards, skis and poles are stowed under the bus. Clothes, boots and other personal items will be stowed in the passenger compartment on the bus.
- Please have helmets readily available at check-in time on the morning of a Ski Bus trip.
- Students will complete check-in at Overlake and then board the bus. Check-in will confirm that students are registered for the trip, whether they need lift ticket or not, and will visually confirm they have a helmet.
- Parents - if you are driving your student to school, please complete and confirm check-in with your student BEFORE you depart campus.
- Find a seat; you may only save one seat for a friend.
- Please stay seated for the remainder of the bus ride, unless using the restroom.
- As soon as everyone is accounted for the buses will depart.
- IPods’, MP3 players, games, studying, chatting quietly, and eating are acceptable – if the bus driver approves.
- Activities must never disturb the driver, chaperones or your fellow students. Inappropriate behavior or activities will not be tolerated. You may be prohibited from future Ski Bus participation.
- Students may bring appropriate videos which are shown at the chaperone’s discretion. No “R” rated movies will be played.
- Chaperones reserve the right to search any bag or gear brought on the bus if necessary. Students are subject to The Overlake School’s code of conduct and will be held accountable if items are found which may be deemed inappropriate and unacceptable.
- Within 15 minutes of arrival at the mountain skiers/boarders can put on their snow clothes and boots. Excess clothes should be packed in a daypack.
- Students must clean up any food/garbage in their bus area.
- Students ski at their own risk. They are responsible for skiing terrain that is appropriate for their ability.
- Daypacks can be left on the bus which will be locked. Students will have limited access to the bus after arrival and should not plan to make trips to the bus during the day.
- Extra gear can be taken to the lodge and stored in one of the lockers.
- Students are responsible for all of their equipment and belongings - chaperones will not be responsible for student gear in the Lodges.
- While on the mountain, Overlake chaperones will maintain a table designated in the lodge. At least one Overlake chaperone will be on duty at the Overlake tables at all times. The on-duty chaperones can provide information and assistance, contact the Trip Manager and resort personnel in case of emergency.
For students - what to do in case of medical emergency or injury:
- Contact the Ski Patrol as quickly as possible.
- If skiing in group, one person should stay with injured person. Remove your skis, cross them in an ”X” or stand-up snowboards in snow in the area above the injured person—this is a universal sign of injury.
- Another person in the group should locate the ski patrol.
- If you are near a chair lift, contact the operator who can call for help.
- If you are alone with the injured, yell for help, cross your skis and stay with the injured person.
- As soon as possible contact the Trip Manager or find an Overlake chaperone in the lodge and give them as much information as possible regarding injury and person’s location. Trip Manager contact information is on the back of the lift ticket, if acquired from Ski Bus.
- The Trip Manager will contact the student’s family with information and will have student’s medical Information in the lodge.
- If a student needs to be transported via ambulance to a hospital, the Trip Manager will contact families and communicate this information.
- Fellow students should not contact families under any circumstances.
- Buses will depart the Overlake parking lot promptly at 7:30AM— DO NOT BE LATE
- Students should arrive 15-30 minutes prior to the scheduled bus departure time.
- Students will be charged for Ski Bus transportation fees if they miss the bus due to tardiness or last-minute cancellations.
- Students should return to the bus at the resort at the time designated by the Trip Manager, seated with all gear loaded.
- Students returning to the bus more than 10 minutes late will miss the next ski trip and forfeit any money already spent. No excuses!
- Buses will arrive back at Overlake at approximately 7:30PM.
- Pack up your daypacks, boots, and clothes.
- Clean all food and garbage in your area.
- Please leave nothing on the bus! After many trips we are left with goggles, one glove or one boot. Double check to make sure you have all of your gear.
- Lost and Found items will be left in the Field House for students. Ask a Physical Education teacher where to find lost items in the gym.
- Ski Bus Trip fees and lift ticket prices will be charged to the student’s school account at the end of the ski season.
- Transportation fees will be dependent upon the number of students signed up for each trip.
- Students will be charged for transportation fees if they fail to show up for a trip, miss the bus due to tardiness, or have a last-minute cancellation.
- Students will be charged for lift tickets only if they request and are issued a lift ticket.
Important notes for parents/guardians:
- Bus departure from ski resort and approximate Overlake return ETA will be communicated via Trip-Day Communication method. If the buses are going to return late, chaperones will instruct students to notify their rides.
- If a student is not being picked up by their parents, visual and verbal confirmation that they are leaving with another family or individual must be approved by the Trip Manager.
- Please be punctual in dropping off and picking up students.
- Please keep your cell phone turned on and easily accessible during Ski Bus trips in case of an emergency where parents must be contacted.
- In the case of a medical emergency: if your student sustains an injury on the mountain, Ski Patrol will exercise their best judgement as to the proper course of action to ensure the health and safety of the student.
- While the Trip Manager is vigilant about making hourly rounds and checking with Ski Patrol about any injuries to Overlake students, there may be situations where they do not know a student has been escorted via ambulance off the mountain.
- In the event of this situation, as the parents/legal guardians, you may be notified by Ski Patrol and/or medical professionals before the Trip Manager is able to communicate this information to you.
- If you receive a phone call about your child, please get in contact with the Trip Manager to ensure that they are aware of the situation and can attend to any remaining paperwork or affairs on your behalf at the mountain, like collecting your student’s belongings or providing support to other students about the situation.
