Middle School Bookclubs 2017

Students at book club

This year, the Library tried something new by hosting two book clubs this week. Out of six possible choices, students chose the humorous, slightly-magical mystery Unusual Chickens For the Exceptional Poultry Farmer by local author Kelly Jones, and the math-based mystery Island of the Unknowns by Benedict Carey. Each student received a copy of the book they signed up for, and almost three months to read it. This week, we ordered pizza and had two meetings, one for the first book and one for the second. For the first, we were incredibly lucky that the author decided to drop by! Kelly Jones came and talked to the students about the book and about writing in general. On day two, we talked about the math mystery book and I put together a series of rebus puzzles for the students to solve to find the cookies to go with their pizza. Fun was had by all!
