Matt's Book Talk on Nov 7
Join Overlake’s Head of School Matt Horvat for the first of three book discussions on November 7.
Horvat sent a letter to families over the Fourth of July holiday with a list of three books he wanted to read with our community.
The first book, danah boyd’s 2014 bestseller, It’s Complicated: The Social Lives of Networked Teens focuses on the author’s decade long research on how young people use social media as a part of their everyday practices. If you have not had a chance to read the book you can order it through Amazon or click here for a pdf copy. The New York Times review called it "layered and smart" noting that it "avoids many of the typical either-or cliches about adolescence."
Horvat plans to hold a winter and spring meeting for the next two books Learn Better: Mastering the Skills for Success in Life, Business, and School, or, How to Become an Expert in Just About Anything by Ulrich Boser and Citizen, An American Lyric by Claudia Rankine.
“These books have relevance and meaning for our community, and each book has ties to Overlake’s mission,” says Horvat. “I hope these gatherings will provide a meaningful way in which our community can come together and engage in thought provoking conversations.”
