Library Collection…

Monday, May 4th, 2009

One of the library’s goals is to support Overlake’s curriculum.  Take a look at the new book list for April,  which reflects this goal. Dave Parson has refined the 10th grade research project and developed  a new  10th grade research project on the Nazi rule in Germany. The librarians purchased additional materials to support the project and provided students  with an overview of additional library resources– books, websites and databases .   The class also has access to two e-books for this assignment.  We are taking this opportunity to preview e-books to see if electronic books are a “ fit ” for project and research assignments at Overlake.
From scanning the list, I bet you can tell which other research project we supplemented with additional material.

Changes Afoot…..

Monday, May 4th, 2009

The Overlake Library will undergo a mini remodel this summer.  There will be no changes to the  building’s exterior walls but interior changes will provide space for a computer lab that will seat 18, two quiet study areas and a dedicated Middle School area.   The really exciting change will be a new library circulation desk that will be positioned in the center of the room.  The library staff, with the guidance of Steve Southerland, Johnson Southerland, Inc. , have developed a circulation desk that we are very excited about.  The Library will be packed up right after school is out. The remodeled space will be ready for students when school begins in the fall.
