Mr. and Ms. Overlake 2012

Friday, October 28th, 2011

To say the class of 2012 represented at the annual Mr. and Ms. Overlake show this year would be an understatement.  As I have written before, there isn’t an event that is more scary for a high school administrator than ad lib comedy.  We have many discussions with kids ahead of time, but in the end, we trust them to exercise good judgment.   This year, more than any other year, my hat is off to the class of 2012.  They were absolutely amazing.  In the end, it was Jimena Sanchez winning Ms. Overlake and Brian Sandstrom and Noah Mayer winning a duel title as Mr. Overlake, but the senior talent went way beyond those winners.   With strong acts by Miles Mitchell, Jacob Gilles, Cody Kautz and Iyad Owen-Elia as well as McCall Hollie, Izzy Runge and Louise Chouinard, the event will be remembered as one of the best of all time.  To top it off, the show was stage managed by Emily Rogers who was managing her first show.   Congrats seniors.

Thank you to Bob Bristol for putting all the time and energy into creating the show, and to the kids and adults that make it happen.

This week is spirit week in the Upper School, and our student have been going all out.   Here is one fun example of one of our seniors who dressed up like Joe Kye (an US English Teacher).

Recent Outdoor Education Trip

Monday, October 17th, 2011

Sometimes I think Outdoor Ed. gets lost in all of the great things going on at Overlake. I have included a link to the most recent four day backpacking trip that occurred over this last weekend.  The pictures are awesome, and Kent relayed to me that in four days the kids got to experience rain, snow, mist, fog and blue bird sky:)    Check out the photos and all of the other trips on the Outdoor site.

Fugitive – A New Game to be Aware of

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

I was recently made aware of a game that kids are playing locally. While I am not aware of any specific Overlake kids playing, I do know that via Facebook and Twitter, local kids are organizing this new game, and it is dangerous and something you may want to talk about with your child. I have included a video from ABC News that profiles an accident that happened in Sammamish, Wa.

Seniors Take Their Cues from Pemco Insurance

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

In a high school setting, dress up days can either be really fun or potentially problematic. Today our seniors really found a great theme, and it makes it so fun to see what they come up and the spirit that a united senior class can generate on a school campus. They decided to come dressed as one of the many “Northwest Profiles” that Pemco Insurance has used in its local ad campaign. Think of “Blue Sky, Blue Tarp Camper Guy”, or “Sandles and Sock Guy”, or perhaps “Greenlake PowerWalker Person”. I tried to capture some of them posing, so enjoy.
